Our Recent Projects

The V&A Museum of Design, Dundee

V&A Dundee is a design museum in Dundee, Scotland, which opened on 15 September 2018. The V&A Dundee is the first design museum in Scotland and the first Victoria and Albert museum outside London.

The V&A Dundee is also the first building in the United Kingdom that has been designed by Kengo Kuma.

Curving concrete walls (there are no straight external walls) hold 2,500 pre-cast rough stone panels, weighing up to 3000 kg each and spanning up to 4m wide, to create the appearance of a Scottish cliff face. There are 21 separate wall sections. V&A Dundee is an impressive 8,000m² building, with 1,650m² of gallery space.

University of Stirling, Sports Redevelopment.

Allied Interiors were delighted to assist in the handover of the new £20 million, University of Stirling, Sports Redevelopment, alongside Morrison Construction. Like many projects, contractors faced an increased degree of difficulty due to the global pandemic, Covid-19, which ground all operations to a hault for a significant period of time. Upon our return to site, we, alongside Morrison Construction had to adapt our methods of working to incorporate the Governments advice on social distancing to ensure all operatives could work safely.

Allied Interiors installed all Suspended Ceilings; Plasterboard, Ceiling Grids, and Suspended Acoustic Solutions. We utilised both Armstrong & Ecophon Ceiling Systems throughout all communal areas, open plan offices, kitchen, toilets and changing facilities. The main atrium ceiling was constructed using a British Gypsum system, incorporating a recessed detail around the atrium to facilitate the installation of feature lighting. In order to control the Acoustic’s within this space, we installed British Gypsum Rigitone Boards, at both the high and low level to create not only an acoustically, but aesthetically attractive solution.

All performance areas within the building, Dance, Spin, and Strength Studios, alongside the flagship Gym Area, feature a variety of highly attractive acoustic solutions in the form of free hanging rafts. The combination of Ecophon’s, Solo Circles & Rectangles, certainly provide the wow factor whilst reducing the reverberation of sound, which was a key focus in what is ultimately a busy environment.

We would like to thank Morrison Construction, for their continued support, and we look forward to working alongside Morrison Construction on future projects.
